Get to Know Our Team
My name is Ana Cristina Guia Lopez. I am 21 years old and originally from San Miguel de Allende. I have worked in the Community Health Advocate program (PSC) at CASA for 2 years.
I finished middle school at Fuego Nuevo and started high school at CBTis No. 60 but dropped out during the fourth semester. I thought it would be easy to get a job and make money so at 16 I began working at a small appliance store. I soon realized how difficult it is to make a living as a young person without a degree or work experience.
When I was 18, I had my daughter Luisa Fernanda and moved in with her father. Even though we loved each other, he was physically and verbally abusive and we broke up after two years of living together.
Initially, I believed that the relationship could work again, but after several months of harassment I visited the public ministry and brought my case to a judge and we were able to achieve an agreement. In the end, my daughter’s father decided he would not be apart of our lives any more.
When my daughter turned one, I started working at CASA. I discovered that I loved community work and enjoyed the excitement of learning new things, addressing our the needs of our community and fixing problems instead of self-victimizing.
Working for CASA has inspired me to resume my high school studies and get a degree in law or social work. I want to become a more caring person who enjoys helping people.
