Professional Midwife School

Founded in 1997, our is the first Midwife School officially recognized under the 11PET0143N agreement with the Education Secretary in Guanajuato.

The study plan is composed of 3 years of theoretical and practical education followed by one year of social service. Therefore, all graduates receive their degree and title.

The main objective is to graduate professional midwives equipped with knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow them to provide sexual and reproductive health services. Midwives that respect, value and applies their knowledge of evidence-based medicine, providing relevant attention. We aim to incentivize resolutive abilities, health promotion, and network establishment to guarantee adequate detection of special cases.

Since its opening, 120 midwives have graduated in 17 classes. CASA recruits women in rural communities, so when they graduate, they can help their respective community’s mothers, babies and families.

What have we achieved?

  • In 1997, the Guanajuato Education Undersecretariat validated the Educación Técnica Terminal en Partería Profesional (Midwife Technical Studies) program.
  • In 2011, the midwife profession was added to the profession catalog, code: M02117.
  • In 2017, the seventeenth class of professional midwives graduated, meaning a total of 120 women have completed their studies as midwives.
  • Today, 24 professional CASA midwives work professionally at various public hospitals in various states: Chihuahua, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Guerrero, Colima, Puebla y Veracruz.

Usually, a new class graduates on August. This year, we are improving our syllabus to create a Bachelor’s degree in midwifery.

The school curriculum at Escuela de CASA includes all the required skills for the World Health Organization and Panamerican Health Organization. As a result of this, we have helped other states to start and approve midwifery programs. In 2012, a program started in Guerrero, as well as Oaxaca, San Luis Potosi and Morelos.
