On March 4, 2025, the Mexican Official Standard NOM-020-SSA-2025 was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). At CASA, AC, we celebrate this significant day and congratulate all traditional and professional midwives, as well as all the institutions and individuals who have worked tirelessly to achieve the publication of this Standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CASA, AC believes that the standard recognizes the evidence of the benefits of a positive, supported, and safe birth, both culturally and clinically, for the woman, the newborn, her family, and the community at large. The standard ensures that all families, regardless of their economic situation, receive the same quality of care and guarantees that women can choose their birth companions, such as family members, friends, or their midwife, something that was previously not allowed in many public hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hospital birth experiences can sometimes be stressful and painful due to discrimination and over-medicalization. Therefore, the Standard promotes improvements in hospital care and the creation of community midwifery centers so that women can receive personalized and respectful care, free from harmful practices.
