School of Professional Midwives with Professional Certificate

The School of Professional Midwives was established in 1997 and is the first officially recognized midwifery school in Mexico under agreement 11PET0143N of the Guanajuato Department of Education.

The overall objective is to train professional midwives with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to provide sexual and reproductive health care that respects, values, and applies evidence-based medicine to provide relevant care.

School of Midwives: What have we achieved?

Currently, 24 CASA professional midwives are working in various public hospitals in states such as Chihuahua, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Guerrero, Colima, Puebla, and Veracruz.

In 1997, the Guanajuato Undersecretariat of Education granted official recognition of the validity of Professional Midwifery Technical Education studies.

In 2011, the Technical Midwife career was included in the job description of the sectoral job catalog. CODE: M02117

In 2017, the 17th generation of professional midwives graduated. To date, 120 women have successfully completed their studies as Professional Midwives.

120 professional midwives from 17 generations have graduated. CASA recruits women in rural communities so that upon graduation they can return to provide care to women of reproductive age, their babies, and their families.
