School of Professional Midwives with Professional Certificate

The School of Professional Midwives was created in 1997, it is the first Midwifery School with official recognition in Mexico under agreement 11PET0143N of the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato.

The general objective is to train professional midwives with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills that allow them to provide sexual and reproductive health care that respects, values, and applies the knowledge of evidence-based medicine to provide relevant care.
Encourage problem-solving capacity, health promotion and the establishment of networks to guarantee the adequate detection of special cases.

The study plan is made up of 3 years of theoretical and practical education followed by 1 year of social service, therefore all graduates obtain a degree and a certificate at the end of the degree.

What have we achieved?

  • In 1997, the Undersecretary of Education of Guanajuato granted the recognition of official validity of studies of Terminal Technical Education in Professional Midwifery.
  • In 2011, the career of Technical Midwife was included in the professional chart of the sector catalog of positions. CODE: M02117
  • In 2017, the 17th generation of professional midwives graduated, so far 120 women have successfully completed their studies as Professional Midwives.
  • Currently, 24 professional midwives from CASA are working in different public sector hospitals in states such as: Chihuahua, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Guerrero, Colima, Puebla, and Veracruz.

120 professional midwives from 17 generations have graduated, CASA recruits women in rural communities so that upon graduation they can return to provide care to women of reproductive age, their babies and their families.
