Giving birth with midwives is safe
In August, 44 women gave birth at the Maternity Clinic and received care from the interdisciplinary team of traditional midwives, professional midwives, obstetric nurses and gynecologists.
At the Maternity Clinic, health professionals offer a “different” kind of birth care. That is how one of our patients described it after her previous birth experiences at two public institutions.
It's true, here we don't give IVs to all women, nor do we open them up (episiotomy) so that the baby is born faster.
But we do offer the care and hospitality needed to make birth a pleasant experience. In 2019, the World Health Organization published evidence-based recommendations on intrapartum care for a positive childbirth experience.
Our midwives follow these and other recommendations 100% so that birth involves as few interventions as possible, lowering the risk of complications such as hemorrhage, labor dystocia, or problems for the baby at birth.
Care here really is different, because above all we respect the human rights of mothers and newborns: we respect privacy, encourage companionship, and support the mother-baby bond from birth.
